As an artist I endeavour to share my vision of the world, to explore my passions and express my joy of living in this beautiful county of Devon. I am fortunate to be surrounded by a landscape that is so varied and exciting in all seasons.

Learning to express a visual language only began for me when I left primary school teaching and decided to explore the world of art. I took a one year Art Access course at Exeter College and then on to a degree course doing 2 years at South Devon College followed by a final year at Plymouth University to gain my BA (Hons.)

I had intended to study Fine Art but found myself becoming more interested in Integrated Crafts, working and manipulating a wide variety of materials. They were inspirational years.

In the years since my graduation I have enjoyed setting up a studio and workshop in my home. I have exhibited a variety of work in local galleries and exhibitions including taking part in a number of Devon Open Studio and Westcountry Potters events.

My paintings evolve from the numerous sketches I do when out exploring the landscape. I enjoy experimenting with a variety of media including acrylic, ink, pastel and oil paints.

For me painting is instantly expressive in seeking out elements that affect me and recreating in painting is a language far more immediate and direct than the written word.

I began using clay when at university and instantly loved the forms and textures that could be created from the earth. It is so responsive to any pressure or marks put on it and once fired the marks remain forever.
